From the north of England now comes an indisputably fresh and at the same time nostalgic Big Beat remix for e.no’s just-released second single Heads Up! The Beat-Pimp, alias Mark Atkinson, is well-known for his eclectic Funky Breakbeat DJ mixes and releases with established labels like Cuttin’ It Fine and One7Audio.

If the original version had already proven as a recipe for good mood and was full of positive energy, The Beat-Pimp’s interpretation ultimately sends us to our domestic dance floors. The sound reminds us of legendary midtempo tracks by The Wiseguys and Freddy Fresh.

The Beat-Pimp cuts and squashes piano and Rhodes samples off the soul-pop notion of the original, which he cleverly installs in a package of old-school breakbeat and scratch samples, only to fulfill the perfect Funk Fest. Eno’s filtered, only anecdoticly selected vocal lines appear as soft commentary, only to be answered by the unbridled urge to dance. Pandemic depression? – Look elsewhere!
